What is LUSH?

Linking Up Suppliers and Hubs is a pilot scheme designed to bring ecological and value based food suppliers together with food hubs that share similar values and who want to create a fair and more resilient food system

How can you benefit?

As a food provider you get paid for the food that is given to the hub or food poverty project.

As a food hub you receive good quality, nutritious food when it suits you and know that the food received by those that need it, is wholesome and in good condition.

LUSH is a locally-driven initiative where two individula organisations that might not normally cross paths (e.g. a farm and an urban food project) get to know each other and work togther for mutual benefit.

How does it work?

1. A food supplier (a farmer, producer or retailer) and a community food hub in the same area get to know each other and understand each other’s needs.

2. The food producer or retailer asks their existing customers to ‘buy another for someone that needs it’. Their customers pay to donate food to the community food hub.

3. The food hub uses the donations to address food poverty and bring social benefits. The supplier and hub talk regularly to ensure the partnership meets the needs of both.
